Register for our upcoming event – From Bootcamp to Engineer: My Career Transition
At Hackbright Academy, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science in addition to modern web development. The fellowship is an intensive program, with labs and lectures Monday – Friday, 10am to 6pm. As of August 2016 prior to joining, students are required to have a minimum of 40 hours of coding experience. (Our Hackbright Prep course or various online courses are great options for anyone considering joining the full-time fellowship.) You can check out our Admissions page for application tips, helpful links, and more information on the application process!
After participating in a rigorous Career Services program, you’ll be exposed to partner companies looking to expand their engineering teams. Our graduates work hard to receive job offers from the Bay Area’s top technology companies and startups. Best part? You’ll get plugged into a one of a kind network of incredible women engineers and partner companies that you can lean on throughout your career.
With a vast network of hiring partners, Hackbright Academy is known in the tech industry and our reputation attracts companies dedicated to inclusiveness. As a student, you’ll take field trips to tech companies where you’ll spend time getting to know their engineering teams and learning about the technology they use, usually in a hands-on workshop. Our software engineers have been hired at companies including:
One of the most in-demand and high paying languages to learn in the industry is Python – the core language of our curriculum. Companies that use Python? Google, Yelp and Dropbox to name a few. The primary language taught in many traditional four-year Computer Science programs at institutions is Python, further making it a competitive language to know.
The program runs Monday through Friday, 10am to 6pm. Download our Fellowship Program Syllabus to get a better understanding of our curriculum and weekly schedule!
Please note: Admitted students are required to complete ~30-40 hours of pre-work assigned by the Education team before beginning the program. Pre-work will be assigned 2-3 weeks prior to the program start date.

Why women only?
We want to do our part to equalize this imbalance and we felt that a program exclusively for women was a good place to start. Our mission is to change the gender ratio in technology and to create an environment where women feel comfortable entering, and remaining, in the tech industry.
Who’s this program for?
Our ideal candidate has an inspired desire to learn software development and wants an immersive environment to become a good developer.
Successful candidates have some introductory exposure to programming prior to the Fellowship. Maybe you gave a few programming tutorials a try but you’re eager for a little more structure. You may have even taken a CS class once in high school or been tinkering with statistics packages.
Why Python and Web Development?
Python is an important part of the tech ecosystem. It’s an excellent teaching language, indeed. It’s the language of choice for both MIT’s and Berkeley’s undergraduate curriculums. More importantly, it’s a commercially used language used by giants and startups alike. We like it a lot, and we think you’ll like it too.
Software Development is changing. Within the last ten years, the web has gone from being a second-class citizen to the primary way software is distributed to people. Aside from toys, there is almost no marketplace for software without a network component anymore, and modern web development was critical to that change. Even if you go on to build mobile applications, you’ll need to interface with a web component.
