This course is for women who are interested in mastering basic programming fundamentals and are seriously interested in a career change into software engineering. Our students have come from various professional backgrounds, including…
I took the intro class because I was interested in the world of engineering, but wasn’t sure if programming or the learning environment at Hackbright would be a good fit for me. The intro class allowed me to gauge my interest in coding and confirm that I can learn effectively there so it was an easy decision at that point to commit to the fellowship!
What I most love about the course is that it’s a group of women that are all committed to learning engineering and it’s for very different reasons. Some folks are looking for a job, some folks already have a job but want to enhance their positions, and then there are other folks who want to learn how to code…and I love the instructors!
The total cost of tuition is $3,000 ($250 non-refundable deposit due upon enrolling).
Don’t have $3,000 lying around? We are excited to announce the rollout of a new payment plan. We have partnered with lending partner Affirm to provide alternative payment options. You can enroll in the payment program here and firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Would your education add a lot of value to your current position? Ask your employer to sponsor you! Dedicating time outside of the office is an effective way to skill up. Please use the Employee Sponsorship Template if you’d like to request employer sponsorship.

How does the Introduction to Programming course prepare me Hackbright Academy’s Full-Time Fellowship?
The Introduction to Programming class will fulfill the 40 hour coding requirement for the fellowship. This class will give you a solid foundation in Python and introduce you to HTML, CSS, and Flask as well. The reasons for laying a strong foundation in coding before applying to the fellowship is twofold. The first reason is that it is important for you to know you love to code before you commit to doing it all day, every day. The second reason is that it allows you to have the skills you need to apply to the fellowship and take the coding challenge.
Why do you teach Python in this course instead of other languages?
The reason we focus on Python in the Introduction course, is that its simplicity lets students focus on fundamental programming concepts instead of having to deal with unnecessary (and hard to look at) language syntax common to many other languages. At the same time, Python is a very powerful web language, and learning it on its own will not limit you from building real web applications.
Can I get in touch with the part-time staff to ask more specific questions?
