Leading Women And Girls In Stem TGIF

TGIF! This week we gravitated towards the profiles of women and girls leading the way for future generations in STEM.

Check back at the end of each week for our Friday finds.

Here’s what we’re reading – May 25

  • Read: The Female Engineers of Bustle on Work, Team, and Falling In Love With Coding by Arielle Dachille for Bustle. Already an online destination for women-focused media, this piece shares the stories of three of the engineers on Bustle’s team who help keep the website running. Find out what inspired them to pursue engineering, and what they love about their jobs.
  • Read: The New York Stock Exchange president steps down, and now they’re making history by The Hustle. In non-tech news this week, the new NYSE president is its former COO Stacey Cunningham. Cunningham’s promotion makes her the first female leader of the NYSE in its two century (!) history. Now, with Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman, women helm two of the world’s leading stock exchanges.
  • Read: The Future of AI Depends on High-School Girls by Lauren Smiley for The Atlantic. Yes, the future of AI, of tech in general, rests on the shoulders of future programmers who are still currently in high school. This piece goes further into the upcoming generation of STEM leaders with an inspiring and honest profile of Stephanie Tena, a 16-year old programmer who faces the challenges of coming from a background historically underrepresented in STEM fields.
