Hackbright Prep – South Bay Pilot
Build Your Foundation
- August 22 - Oct 12, 2017
- 8 Weeks | $1,500 - Limited time only!
- Tue & Thu | 6:45PM - 9:15PM
Enrollment Deadline: August 4
Students are assigned one member of the Education who serves as an advisor. Advisors will meet with students at least twice in the program to discuss the student’s goals, learning experience and to go over code reviews.
To reinforce student learning, Hackbright Academy provides weekend assignments that cover the concepts students learn during the week. Weekend assignments are provided for the first five weeks prior to the project period.
Personal project time is imperative as true learning happens when students engage concepts in unique and tangible ways. We guide students through the process of scoping, pseudocoding (project planning), coding and refactoring. At the end of the course, students build a terminal-based game.
(Every Sunday | Weeks 5-8) During the final four Sundays of the class, we have code brunch from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. This is an informal time when members of the Education team are available to students. Students are encouraged, but not required, to attend. Students typically work on personal projects, homework, and exercises.
This course is for women who are interested in mastering basic programming fundamentals and a career change into software engineering. Our students have come from various professional backgrounds with the commonality:
The part-time course at Hackbright truly set me up for the ultimate success during the fellowship. Not only was I taught core Python concepts, syntax and tricks, I was also taught HOW to learn as a developer, allowing me to be an effective programmer in any language.
The part time class also gave me confidence that I definitely wanted to be a software engineer, and helped me transition smoothly into the full-time fellowship.
I was a little intimidated entering the bootcamp but I am so thankful that I took the part-time class because it gave me a solid foundation of Python. Without this, I would have had to work that much harder. Not too mention I met some great supportive women who are interested in the same thing programming.
For a Limited Time Only
The total cost of tuition is $1,500 ($250 non-refundable deposit due upon enrolling). We are able to provide a discounted rate for this pilot thanks to the free space provided by Netflix.

How does Hackbright prepare me for Hackbright Academy’s Full-Time Fellowship?
Hackbright Prep course will fulfill the 40 hour coding requirement for the fellowship. This class will give you a solid foundation in Python. The reasons for laying a strong foundation in coding before applying to the Fellowship are twofold: The first reason is that it is important for you to know that you love to code before you commit to doing it all day, every day. The second reason is that it allows you to have the skills you need to apply to the Fellowship and take the coding challenge.
Why do you teach Python in this course instead of other languages?
This is the language used in the full-time Fellowship. The reason Hackbright focuses on Python is because its simplicity lets students focus on fundamental programming concepts instead of having to deal with unnecessary (and hard to look at) language syntax common to many other languages. It’s a great professional language that you can build on and it’s used by top companies.
Is Hackbright still offering the Introduction to Programming course?
At this time, Intro to Programming is paused. We have launched Hackbright Prep to meet the student requests for a course that will support them into getting into the full-time Fellowship.
Can I get in touch with the part-time staff to ask more specific questions?
We welcome any questions you might have, so please feel free to
